Chinese School The Chinese Language School was established in 1977 and boast a success in educating our next generation the culture and language of the Chinese heritage. The Chinese Language School is the first non-profit making sub-group of our organisation. Its main purpose is to educate the future Chinese generations, so that they have the opportunity to learn our language and understand our own beautiful culture, and be the beneficiaries of our five thousand year’s history. It is through the hard work of our dedicated teachers who volunteer their time and effort in helping our younger generation recognise the importance of knowing their own mother tongue and bridge the communication gaps between different generations.
The Women’s Group was set up by group of friends in June 1997, who came to the realisation that the majority of the women from the Chinese community have devoted half of their life-time to their work and children. As their children have grown and become independent the women had more time for them selves to meet up and socialise. The women’s Group meets in a variety of settings, they organise lunches, outings and workshops and share the wealth of knowledge and experience they have in many areas. The Group offers opportunities to develop new skills and improve self-esteem which are essential in integrating confidently into society.
For many of the first generation who came to live in England, their lives were devoted to work in order to provide a better way of living for their families back in Hong Kong, China. Due to this, there was neither time nor opportunity for them to develop key skills to support them into integrating with the British Society. As this group of our community reached retirement age, they were not able to access the leisure opportunities that the younger generations may take for granted. The aim of the Elders Group is to offer stimulating activities and opportunities to socialise in a range of events. We hope this would encourage our senior group in achieving a more fulfilled and active life.
The Business Group is run by a committee with an excellent record of business success. With such in-depth knowledge we have a high understanding of the needs of the Chinese Business Community. We aim toprovide up to date information which will ensure that our Business community is able to continue to run successfully and safely, and we are confident that we can provide a range ofcourses and events to meet those needs Health and Safety Food hygiene Personal License Risk Assessment Crime Prevention etc
The British Born Chinese Youth Group plays an important role in helping young people from the Chinese Community to build confidence and self-esteem, they are supported by organised activities and events where young people are giving the opportunity to learn to understand and appreciate their own cultural heritage and build respect for their own identity. The Youth Group is run by young people who already share an in-depth understanding of their own culture and have a strong belief in promoting such heritage to their peers.
